Ladies Football
In 1996 it was decided to set up a Ladies Football team in Tubber. Many women from the area were playing football with other clubs, most notably Moate, and it was decided to bring them together to form a team to represent the Tubber parish. Jackie Heavin, Sinead Healy,Veronica King, Breda King and Veronica Colgan had all played with Moate previous to '96 and enjoyed a degree of success when they were part of the Moate team that were runners up in the 1995 Westmeath Ladies Football Championship. So in 1996 a Tubber Ladies Football team took to the field for the first time under the management of Tommy Colgan. But they had to wait until 1998 for their first success. They won the Ladies Junior 'B' football title for the first time in 1998 when they defeated Clonbullogue in the final which was played in Tubber. 1999 saw the Tubber Ladies playing in the Junior 'A' championship but when they lost their first round game they were automatically re-entered into the Junior 'B' championship. So again the Tubber Ladies went on to win the Junior 'B' title for the second year in a row when they defeated Doon in the final which was played in Kilcormac. In 2000 Tubber Ladies then made real strides in the Junior 'A' championship by reaching the final but they lost narrowly to Croghan.
