LADIES FOOTBALL   22/08/2018

Congratulations to St Manchan's Ladies U16s, who have made it through to the B Championship Cup Final for the second year running, following a thrilling victory against Rhode on Sunday in Durrow. This was a really close and exciting game, with nothing separating the teams. In the first half it was nip-and-tuck, with both defences on top and scores hard to come by. Two minutes before half-time, Rhode scored a goal to open up a four point lead, but there was still enough time for a response before the short whistle as Annie Heavin hit the net for St Manchan's, leaving the score at half-time 1-04 to 1-03 to Rhode. More drama was in store though in the second half. The teams continued to match each other score for score, and Rhode led by one point at the end of the third quarter. Rhode then burst through from the right side of midfield for a great goal. Within a minute Rhode attacked again, this time down the left, and the ball was in the back of the net again. Suddenly our girls found themselves seven points down, and might have dropped their heads. Instead they went straight up the field and kicked a great point. From then on they played super football. Another point, and then a great goal by Kayleigh Donohoe, brilliantly set up by Halle Egan, brought it back to a two point game. Then two more points followed and we were back level. With just five minutes left, Rhode regained the lead with a great point. But our girls were not to be denied, and with only minutes left, Kaytlin Flynn soloed in from the right near the end-line and with almost no angle somehow managed to send the ball crashing to the roof of the Rhode net, to roars of delight from the large St Manchan's following in the stand. As hard as they tried, the Rhode girls couldn't recover from this blow, and St Manchan's finished out the game strongly with three more points to win on a scoreline of 3-11 to 3-06. They now play Clara in the Final next Saturday, details to follow.

Our adult Ladies played an Intermediate Championship match in Tubber on Monday v St Broughan's. The visitors were very impressive and had built up an unassailable lead by half-time. However, our ladies put in a spirited second half performance in which they took some fine scores. The final score was St Broughan's 4-22 St Manchan's 4-08.

Our U14s continue their preparations for the County Semi-Final in a few weeks with a challenge match away to Clara this Wed at 7.00pm.

Training for all ages U6-U16 continues on Saturdays at 10.00am. This week the venue is Ballycumber.
