ScÓr

From its beginnings in 1969 Scór was seen by the GAA as a real way of promoting and fostering our traditional pastimes within the organisation. It was hailed as an answer to the revival of some of the oldest parts of Irish culture. And so it has proved to be.

Today it is an aspect of the GAA that many clubs prefer to forget about but not so in Tubber.

For 30 years now Scór has been an important part of the makeup of Tubber GAA.

Originally it was the late Bill Collins who strongly advocated the endorsement of Scór and Scor na nÓg. It was Bill's wish that Tubber should be represented in all eight Scór competitions and to this day,Tubber holds the record in Offaly boasting keen competition in all events. For the people in Tubber involved in Scór throughout the years they will all tell you about the enjoyment and craic to be had in the evenings in the hall or in the clubhouse rehearsing for the big nights. Scór was designed to keep alive much of our failing culture but it also serves as a great way to bring people together through music and story and fun. It is for this reason that Tubber GAA places such a huge emphasis on Scór within the club and we continue to encourage anyone with an interest to please join.

Throughout the years Tubber has produced many winners of county titles and we even have All-Ireland winners to be very proud of.Winning a county title in Scór is no easy task but to go all the way and claim an All-Ireland medal says a great deal about the success of Scór in the club and the talent of the people taking part. In 1984 David Sheridan and Camillus Hiney were crowned All-Ireland champions for Instrumental music, which was followed on by All-Ireland crowns in Scór na nÓg for Tanya Dunne in 1988 and Jamie Colgan in 2006, both for recitations.
